The Peene River is one of the last European rivers to follow its natural course. With the long-term goal of establishing a nature reserve, large parts of the river banks – 9600 hectares – have thus been classified as protected areas.

The Mansion Groß Toitin is situated directly next to the protected Peene area. You should not miss out on the opportunity of seeing visiting beavers, adders and sea-eagles under the professional guidance of local biologists.

The Peene River is an increasingly attractive destination for nature tourists. In the year 2010 the Peene Valley won the European Destination of Excellence Award.
