One of the oldest fiefdoms in Pomerania
Toitin Luxury Country Estate is one of the oldest fiefdoms in Pomerania, its history dating back almost five hundred years. The first documented mentioning of Gross Toitin is likely to be from 14 February 1305 when Bishop Heinrich von Cammin sold estates to the Otto I, Duke of Pomerania. Achim und Curd von Heyden were given Groß Toitin already in 1536 by Duke Philipp of Pomerania. Groß Toitin remained the main estate of the family von Heyden zu Cartlow.
However, in the early 19th century it was passed on to the family von Linden due to the lack of a male heir in the von Heyden family. Woldemar von Heyden, who successfully expanded the family fortune in the mid-century, was able to reacquire and develop the estate in 1846. He also commissioned the neo-Romanic village church in 1859 and established one of the first welfare systems for the peasants on his estate.
The estate was leased to a Westphalian family in the early 20th century, who managed the Groß Toitin until the end of World War II. During the German Democratic Republic the houses were used for residential purposes by a number of families and fell into decay.
Today, Groß Toitin the private property of a family from Hesse, who carefully reconstructed the manor house and side buildings. The buildings on the estate are heritage-protected.
